Advocacy in Indiana

Advocacy at the Statehouse

Each year the IRS participates in the Indiana State Medical Association’s (ISMA) Physician Advocacy Day. Members are encouraged to attend, to meet with their legislators in the Statehouse and to advocate for the practice of medicine in the state of Indiana. The ISMA provides reference materials and assists in making appointments with the legislators. This event occurs each January.

The IRS works with a lobbyist, Mike Brady from Bose Public Affairs. He tracks and monitors bills that may affect medicine and radiology in particular, reporting back to and advising the IRS of any actions needed. Mike typically hosts monthly conference calls with the legislative committee when the legislature is out of session and weekly conference calls when the legislature is in session. He is an invaluable resource for guiding the Indiana RADPAC (Radiology Political Action Committee) and connecting our members with their representatives.
