Meharry Medical Student Program
Women and minority radiologists are significantly underrepresented in the workforce, especially black radiologists. This is partially because all radiology residencies at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) Schools of Medicine have closed over the years. To help address these issues, the IRS supports the Indiana University Meharry Medical Student Program. This program sponsors 2 medical students a year from Meharry Medical College, a private HBCU medical school in Nashville, TN, to participate in a summer radiology research program in Indianapolis, working with Indiana University radiology staff.
Together with the Indiana University Department of Radiology and the Tennessee Radiological Society, the IRS helps to provide the scholarships that allow the Meharry students to participate in the program free of charge.
